Question of the week
Are you a teacher teaching children from different ethnic communities? Do you know enough about each of their cultures? Many teachers love teaching and want to do the best for their learners. However if they have not interacted with the culture of the child they are teaching then they may disregard the impact of ethnicism on learners experiences. Take the time as a teacher to study other cultures. This will give you imagination, ingenuity and boldness to address ethnicism both in class and within the society. Taking an interest in subjects that expose learners to culture such as history, geography and literature even though you may be teaching something else helps. Teacher training colleges could consider recruiting teachers from as many ethnic communities as possible.
